Every year on February 27th, The Pokémon Company celebrates the original release of Pokémon Red and Green in Japan. The day, aptly named Pokémon Day, generally comes with a Nintendo Direct (like last week’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase), better known as a Pokémon Presents.
Ironically, Pokémon Presents may be a double entendre, as it always comes with great news for Pokémon fans to help satiate them for a chunk of the year.
Generally speaking, you can expect some obvious things in any Pokémon Presents. This includes news about the trading card game, mobile games, anime, and more.
How to watch the Pokémon Presents on 2/27/2024
You can head to Pokemon’s official YouTube at 9 AM Eastern Standard Time (EST) for the live presentation. If you’re looking to watch this live on the West Coast, you’ll be up at 6 AM, Pacific Standard Time (PST).
Not only will it be on Pokemon’s English YouTube, but the Japanese YouTube version of the presentation has a premiere set, so you can schedule it for yourself. However, this one will be in Japanese.
In either case, the presentation is set to be roughly 13 minutes long.
What to expect from the Pokémon Presents
Since we just got the wonderful DLC to 2022’s Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, fans shouldn’t expect too much news on the mainline games aside from potentially a teaser, at best.
However, you can expect news about their side games on mobile devices. Pokémon GO, Pokémon Masters EX, Pokémon Unite, Pokémon Sleep, and Pokémon Cafe Remix are easy contenders to get a shoutout during the presentation.
One thing of note is that the teaser announcement for the presentation had some very interesting music. The tune came directly from the original Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver. This could potentially be teasing something to expect from the presentation. It’s important to note that the tune is from the originals and not from the fantastic Nintendo DS remakes.
If I may speculate (which I like to do often), it’s plausible that this could mean that the original Game Boy games may be coming to Nintendo Switch Online. But, it could easily also mean that a Pokémon Legends Arceus situation may come from it, but set in Johto. Who knows? We’ll find out soon.
Whatever it is, it’ll be available only a few hours from the publication of this article. So, keep an eye out. Once a VOD is available, we’ll update this article as well.
