Remember how we did 12 cozy game reviews in March? April put us back in balance. Unfortunately, we had a lot of personal things come up that kept us from doing a lot in terms of reviews. But, that doesn’t mean this round-up is empty!
I don’t normally talk about any individual game up here, but I really can’t say enough good things about Botany Manor. If you only look at one review or choose one game from this round-up, choose that one. And, if you want an entertaining story time, don’t miss out on our Gas Station Simulator review.
If you’ve played any of these games, we’d love to know what your thoughts were! Also, if there are any new cozy game releases that you’re really loving, we want to know what they are!
April Cozy Games Reviews
Clean the Sea! is very reminiscent of mobile-style gameplay and, unfortunately, this aspect makes the game lack depth.
Although it’s not really a game, Spirit City: Lofi Sessions will have you wanting to play just to find and spend time with your spirits. It’s a great focus tool that’s visually pleasing with customizable sounds to suit your needs.
Botany Manor is such a pleasant and cozy experience. I loved getting to explore the manor and appreciated that the puzzles weren’t too hard.
While the concept of Gas Station Simulator is enjoyable, when the game glitches, it glitches hard. While it makes for a funny story, it’s not a fun gameplay experience.
Cozy Game Previews
These Doomed Isles feels like playing the lottery or gambling and it just wasn’t fun. If you thrive on a chance-based strategy, give it a whirl. But, man, this one just wasn’t for me.
Other Cozy Games
Pathless Woods: Honestly, this one isn’t here because of any reason other than we couldn’t review it. This game is pretty big on playing multiplayer and seems to be server based to achieve that. So, Arthur and I both tried to play it. The tutorial part of this game worked just fine and seemed like it might be fun even if we hated the controls. This is very heavily keyboard based in terms of keys required and, if there was controller support, it would still be easier on the keyboard.
Unfortunately, after we created the server, both of our computers said we needed to go straight to jail, do not pass go, and did not let us collect $200. His computer actually needed to be restarted and mine went down to a whopping 10 fps.
Obviously, this isn’t the fault of the developer. We just have older computers. So, if you have a computer older than a few years, check the specs. Even on low settings across the board, we couldn’t play due to the senior citizen’s discount card our computers hold.
Perhaps in the future when we get better computers, we’ll try it again.
Tell Me Your Story: I really wanted to love this one. It’s cozy and it’s chill… but the marketing doesn’t say anything about this being made for a younger demographic. So, when I tell you that this seemed more suited to children, I’m talking like elementary school aged kids.
If this had been intended for children, that would be fine. But, from what I understand, I am the target demographic.
This game sent me back to the prehistoric era of Putt-Putt and Pajama Sam in terms of how guided and simple this gameplay was. Great for kids, but you’ll probably be disappointed if you chose this for yourself.
