On Wednesday, Nintendo of America announced that you will no longer be able to post screenshots or videos to X from your Nintendo Switch as of June 10th, 2024.
On the official Nintendo of America X/ Twitter:
As of June 10, 2024, it will no longer be possible to post screenshots and videos to X (formerly Twitter) from the Nintendo Switch’s Album, or send friend requests to social media users via the Friend Suggestions feature. Find out more: https://ninten.do/6010YVr2a
In the same post to X (formerly Twitter), Nintendo of America, additionally, detailed that it’s ending the ability to send friend requests to social media via the Friend Suggestions functionality.
In their linked post, on Nintendo’s support page, they go more into detail on how this will work with games like Splatoon 2, Splatoon 3, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
While there isn’t a clear reason for the discontinuation of support, it’s very possible that it could be something to do with Elon Musk’s continuous changes to the X platform via its APIs. Application Programming Interface (or API) is, without going into technical detail, a way that programs can talk to each other and communicate, allowing them to use both of their functionalities at the same time.
This change will only affect the X platform. For the foreseeable future, Facebook will still be usable on the Switch for photo sharing and friend requests.
