In recent months, Fortnite has gone from “that one battle royale game” to being something quite a bit more. Between adding entirely new modes like Lego Fortnite and Rocket Racing, it’s been doing its best to bring in even more ways to play the aging game. Now, you can find Lofi Girl.
Earlier this week, a short teaser became available on the official Lofi Girl YouTube channel that showed the Lofi Girl and her cat finding a Fortnite rift in her home. The cat gets sucked in and the teaser ends with a Fortnite island code: 6437-7858-4061.
You got Lofi Girl in my Fortnite and Fortnite in my Lofi Girl
The island is named “Lofi Girl Explore”. If you hop into Fortnite right now and go to that island code, you get shrunk down to be tiny in a full recreation of the bedroom from Lofi Girl, not unlike Toy Story. But, she’s missing!
After finding a way to flip the light switch to turn the light on and then heading to the top of her desk, you’re given a grappling hook. But, to get that far turns this chill, relaxing island up to 11 for a bit.
You have to use trial and error to jump from thumbtack to shelf to thumbtack. If you hit it at the wrong angle, your character will try to mantle it automatically and hike you over your intended destination. And thus, you will land on the ground.
My best advice is to not trust the thumbtacks. Try to push yourself against walls as often as possible and angle yourself to aim at the wall instead of empty air.
I liken the early parts of this island to games like A Difficult Game About Climbing, Only Up!, or any of the beautiful disasters made by Bennett Foddy.
The mystery of where Lofi Girl is is what you’re trying to find out. Once you get the grappling hook, you can Spider-Man around the area a little bit easier, with limitations.
Players can listen to 50 different music tracks on 5 different radios within your menu. You also can change your headwear to things like Lofi Girl’s headphones and your back bling to things like her lamp.
As you swing around her bedroom, you’re tasked with tiny quests, like finding King Froggy’s crown or answering trivia challenges. You need to scan the various pictures on the wall (there are 12 and some are actually difficult to get to) and three handwritten notes. You’re also looking for 40 music notes lightly hidden around the room and 10 more secret ones.
As this is an official Lofi Girl island and the mystery is that she’s gone missing from her bedroom, there might be actual collaboration items coming to Fortnite. But, that’s just speculation on my part. Considering this isn’t an official “Epic Games” island, it could just be this and nothing else.
After playing through the majority of it myself, it’s a cute collab. Don’t go into it thinking it’s all relaxing though. With the difficult climbing and parkour parts, you’re going to want to switch to your controller pretty fast.
The upside is that you can earn experience on this island as well. So, doing the quests and hunting can help you toward your season levels. I earned roughly one and a half levels just from doing stuff.
