Earlier today, LEGO and Nintendo announced that The Legend of Zelda is finally coming to brick form. The first set announced will be The Great Deku Tree. “But,” you may ask, “which one?”
Fans of The Legend of Zelda are likely aware that there are multiple Great Deku Trees across the franchise. This set satisfies them by giving you both the enemy-laden Ocarina of Time version and the beautiful cherry-blossom Breath of the Wild version. It’s a 2 in 1 deal.
A LEGO Master Builder needs to wield the Master Sword.
But, that’s not all! Just like other large LEGO sets of this caliber (being as it’s 2500 pieces), there are so many little hidden details to build into your Deku Tree. For instance, a hidden Gold Skulltula, in the OoT version, as well as Link’s house from the Kokiri Forest are included.
In the Breath of the Wild build, you’ll find characters like the giant Korok, Hestu, as well as a hidden Korok in the Deku Tree. You can also see Link cooking a mushroom dish or hanging out with Zelda while holding the Master Sword.
Nothing’s stopping you from mixing and matching your characters. Have Navi bug Zelda or have Link, the Hero of the Wild, meet The Hero of Time… Link.
My only curiosity is, since the trees are so different looking, visually, if it’s two separate builds or if you need certain parts to build one particular tree and setup and can’t build both at once. If you’re familiar with sets like the Bonsai Tree, the leaves are changeable from green to pink, but the primary base remains the same.
Nintendo has been getting really comfortable working with LEGO lately. With the success of the Super Mario LEGO sets, we’ve seen special editions like the Nintendo Entertainment System set, as well as a ton of new Animal Crossing options.
With a The Legend of Zelda live-action movie announced, it’s smart to get Zelda back into the public eye early. I hope we can get a full Hyrule Castle in a future set as well! It’d also be great to get Lon Lon Ranch, Breath of the Wilds‘ stables, or more iconic locales from other Zelda games.
You can pre-order this giant set today on LEGO’s website. Great Deku Tree 2-in-1, as mentioned, is 2500 pieces and is priced at $299.99. It comes out on September 1st, 2024.
