Another Crab’s Treasure is certainly not a cozy game in its original state. However, did you know that you can turn this crabby little adventure into something resembling a cozy game?
There are assist mode settings programmed into Another Crab’s Treasure to make it considerably easier and far less frustrating. I’m going to give you the low-down because one of the mechanics needs to be unlocked and can’t be accessed at the start of the game.
Don’t worry, it doesn’t take long to get everything squared up for a cozy crab adventure.

How do I change the assist mode settings in Another Crab’s Treasure?
You’re going to open up your options menu, pick settings, and then open up assist mode. In this menu, you can see all the options that you can toggle off and on. If you still want to be challenged, you can manually pick and choose which features you want to use.
If you’re looking for the coziest gameplay experience, you want to choose the “Story” settings. Don’t be fooled by the setting “easier.” It’s aptly named since it does make gameplay easier, but it’s not the easiest. “Story” will automatically toggle all the settings for the best cozy experience.
Among these settings you can get:
- Extra shell durability
- Reduce damage taken
- Lower enemy health
- Extra dodge invincibility
- Extra parry window
- Prevent microplastic loss on death
- Prevent pitfall damage
- Slow down game speed
- Give Kril a gun
At the very bottom, there is a button that says “recover microplastics”. This will give you back your microplastics if you die, which you shouldn’t have to worry about if you have “prevent microplastic loss on death” flipped on.
There’s a ton of ways to optimize your gameplay, but depending on when you change your settings you may not have access to give Kril a gun just yet.
Why is the “give Kril a gun” option greyed out?
If you change these settings at the start of the game, you may notice that the gun option is greyed out. You won’t be able to turn this feature on until after you have completed the tutorial mode.
You’ll know that you’ve done it when you reach the snail. An altercation between you and the snail results in the snail’s shell falling off. You have the illusion of being able to equip it, but when you go to do it, the shell is too small. Here is where you’ll be able to equip the gun as your shell instead.
Is the gun any good?
The gun is OP. Not only does it give you a shell, but it allows you to shoot at enemies. You’ll be able to one-shot everything, including bosses.
However, the gun isn’t infallible. You can’t melee shoot enemies, so you’ll want to be sure you snipe them from afar before they get too close. Otherwise, your shots won’t land and you’ll have to back up to be able to hit them.
Can I fight the crabs at the beginning of Another Crab’s Treasure?
I’m adding this question because I was confused and it may help others. When you drop down into the reef at the start of the game and talk to your first crab, it’s going to immediately aggro on you. If you’re like me, you’re going to assume that you’re supposed to fight them.
You’re not. You’re meant to run. I suppose I should have realized this when I was getting swarmed, but you’re not meant to win those fights. It’s supposed to teach you how to dodge.
Go forth and “just start blasting”.
That’s it! Now that you’ve kitted yourself out with the coziest settings, you can enjoy Another Crab’s Treasure along with everyone else with minimal frustrations!
Enjoy your game and send anyone who keeps you from reclaiming your shell to a watery grave! …or a dry grave?
