I’m the type of gamer that when things get intense, I find myself leaning forward to get “more into the game”. So, when I had a chance to test out the newest Couchmaster (or any of the nerdytec products for that matter), I was unsure how much I’d actually like it.
Add on the fact that the Couchmaster CYPINK isn’t exactly designed for manly, burly men, I had my initial thoughts about it. I understood that it is clearly more designed towards women and assumed my wife would utilize it a ton more than I would.
But, I was wrong. I found a lot to like in this product. So, let’s go through my thoughts about what the Couchmaster CYPINK is, how it works, and if it’s something worth buying.
Who is the Couchmaster CYPINK for?
We can’t talk about the specs without first going into what it actually is. While nerdytec’s website is a little limited on what the Couchmaster actually is aside from images and some basic info, that might actually be the point.
To quote their website, the Couchmaster CYPINK is “the all-rounder among couch desks and offers many comfort functions.”
As stated, it’s a glorified lap desk. But, the design is what makes it a little more unique and easy to use. I’ll go into detail later about how it works a little more and how to make it as cozy as possible.
The answer here is that the Couchmaster is for anyone with some extra room on the couch looking to have some comfort while gaming or using a laptop somewhere that isn’t their computer chair. And it’s the pink, fuzzy version.
What are the specs, functionality, and utility of the Couchmaster CYPINK?
The way it works is that the main base of the Couchmaster CYPINK is in three primary parts. You get a rectangle block cushion on each side and a bamboo wood board that sits across them. It isn’t rocket science or anything.
For a piece of furniture, though, you wouldn’t expect to have so much math involved. But, the Couchmaster CYPINK needs quite a bit of room to function well and you may need to break out that measuring tape.
As I mentioned earlier, you’re going to take up a large chunk of your couch when this is in use, especially if you are not a small person. Each of the two side cushions is 7.9 inches, with a maximum 27.6-inch space for you in between. It’s pretty adjustable since nothing is directly connected.
Surprisingly, this fits me with a couple of inches to spare and I’m not tiny. So, most people should be able to use this.
I would say that anyone bigger or wider could potentially run into some problems. So, make sure to measure the amount of space you need when sitting before you purchase. Oh, and that recommendation goes double if you’re the kind of person to cross their legs on the couch, no matter your size.
The CYPINK model comes, first off, in a very fuzzy, Pepto pink material. The fuzzy cushions are surprisingly comfy and soft. I’ll talk more about that in a bit. But, something of note is how sturdy the cushions actually are. For being so soft and cushy, they’re really well made.
Sitting the board on top of them, you have a few visible bits of functionality. You can find a nice vent at the left for those using this for their laptop, as well as a space for the included (also pink) mousepad on the right.
There is also a slot for putting a tablet or phone. The slot, while always welcome, just isn’t useful for anyone using a tablet case at all.
I pulled my iPad out of its case to test it and, even though it likely wouldn’t, I became super worried that having it caseless and wedged into a piece of hardwood would somehow crack it. Or maybe I’d accidentally launch the board off my lap and the iPad would fly out of the slot. My clumsiness knows no bounds.
So, that specific endeavor was short-lived and it didn’t pass my personal smell test. However, I did like that it has a hole in the bottom of the tablet well to snake a cord from underneath… if you’re braver than I am.
The main desk board itself is also pink and can be used in an armchair or without the cushions, so it’s pretty versatile on its own. The cushions just complete the look and the product.
On the side of one of the cushions, you can find some pockets for holding things like cords, a TV remote, or anything you need really. Similarly, there is a hook and loop strip (i.e. Velcro) that you can add to the backside of the board away from you to hold a mouse when not in use. I’ll be honest, I forget it’s there due to it being out of my sight.
When you first get it, you are also given a couple of fake leather strips that stick onto the front of the board where your elbows are likely to touch it. Otherwise, that’s the entire product and what comes with it.
Is the Couchmaster CYPINK comfortable?
When it comes to all-around comfort, I’m not going to bury the lede here and just say that it’s pretty comfy for me. But, it isn‘t perfect by any stretch of the imagination.
The cushions are actually very soft. Sure, they’re Barbie Dreamhouse pink, but they’re soft and fuzzy, and I believe they’re filled with a memory foam of some sort. My cats try to steal the cushions when they’re on the couch and I’m not looking. The cats gave this product a 10 out of 10.
The ventilation is on the left side, which isn’t really a problem. But, other Couchmaster products sometimes have the vent directly in the middle where it’d feel a lot more natural to type on and utilize a laptop.
As someone using the Couchmaster CYPINK to play console games on my TV, it doesn‘t matter as much. But, based on their official glam shots, I feel like they want this lap desk to be used to type on your Macbook and for using your iPad over actual gaming.
This is especially noticeable when compared to official photos of most of the other Couchmaster products, not including the nearly identical (but way more grayscale) CYWORX, all focusing more on the gaming aspects of a couch desk.
I’d like to see a more girly gaming Couchmaster in the future. Seriously, their all-black CYBOSS would look good in pastels.
The included mousepad comes with a double-sided adhesive to attach it to the bamboo board if you want. But, I find myself using this more to hold my phone, the TV remote, and my drink while I play on my Xbox.
Speaking of which, this thing is incredibly sturdy. I thought I’d have to clean up my drink at this point, but it’s never even tipped once while in use. I’m impressed.
At the top of this article, I mentioned that I’m a bit of a forward leaner when I game. So, what does this mean for me? I am surprised to say that this is really comfy when I play games.
So, while I still can lean forward a bit if I want, it’s actually nice and armchair-like when I lean back as well. With the fuzzy material of the sides, it’s pretty cozy. Also, the design of the Couchmaster CYPINK doesn’t feel as constricting as you’d think based on how it looks.
As mentioned, one downside to the CYPINK is that it takes up a ton of room, both in use and when stored.
We have a two-cushion loveseat instead of a full couch that fits both my wife and I, comfortably, without sitting on each other. In use, the CYPINK takes up a large portion of the couch and I cannot be joined by another person at that time. It sucks, but it’s kind of necessary for everything it does, unfortunately.
Similarly, when trying to store the Couchmaster CYPINK, we have to keep it at the top of one of our closets. It takes up a lot of area to store, so expect that when you consider getting any Couchmaster option.
Another point of view? Let’s ask my wife!
I realized that I could be taking it too easy on the Couchmaster CYPINK. It’s just a fancy lap desk, after all. So, I asked the comfiest, coziest gamer that I know: my wife Ashley. She had a lot to say about it that may help you determine if the CYPINK is right for you.
Firstly, as the editor of this article, I did think it was wildly hilarious to put a photo of our cat in this segment instead of me, the wife. Secondly, his name is Han and he’s a stage 5 clinger. You can pet him.
Now, onto business!
Personally, I was surprised that the CYPINK came in three pieces. For some reason, I envisioned from the pictures that they’d slide apart. I’m glad to be wrong about that because even though they’re a bit wonky to deal with separately, it would be impossible to stand up from the couch with a fully attached piece.
Visually… it’s whatever. The nerdytec site is flooded with blacks, greys, and camos with the one outlier being this pink, fuzzy creation meant for women. Personally speaking, if you wanted to hook the female gaze, I’d have gone either lighter or darker. Either lean into the pastels as Arthur stated or lean into the dark academia color palette with rich colors like forest green, maroon, or dark blue.
Bubblegum Pink is an aesthetic, but unless it’s your vibe, it’s kind of hard to coordinate with your decor.
As a self-proclaimed gremlin who sits in all manner of inhuman ways, being able to curl myself up into the smallest cozy ball possible is important, so I was glad for the ease allowed in the design. However, because it’s so large and bulky, the pieces became unwieldy on my loveseat. The parts spilled over onto the second cushion and then created a sucking void where the cushions meet that tried to unstable the setup.
In terms of use, I like the board. I feel like it’d work well when used in an armchair, but I’d skip the stickers that are meant to be wrist guards. What I’m assuming is meant to be a cushion for your arms just scratches them up.
Generally, I found myself gravitating toward one item or the other. Either I’d use the board across my lap, or I’d use one of the arm cushions to just lean heavily into.
Overall, it’s a fine product. I don’t know why it’s one of the more expensive models. Nor do I know how fuzzy arm rests work out as more expensive than genuine Kevlar siding on other models, but that’s anyone’s guess.
The only other thing I have an opinion on is storage. You have to have a dedicated space in your home for this or it’s just going to cause issues. And, unfortunately, it needs to be separate from pets. Otherwise, it’ll get gross and your cats will flip it off the couch. You don’t want that jump scare. Trust me, I know.
Weigh out your options and then decide. It works and it works as advertised, I just don’t know if it’s worth the extra $10-15 over the other model that is essentially the same.
Arthur gave it a 7, but I’m leaning more toward a 6. If we did half scores, maybe it lands solidly at a 6.5 for me.
I value her opinions on this as I know she had a vastly different experience than I did with the CYPINK and she’s way more likely to play games on the couch than I usually am.
Final Verdict
The Couchmaster CYPINK sets out to be a nice couch desk and it does exactly that. If you’re looking for something brutally bright pink that can allow you to do your work or game from your couch, it’s a great option.
I make a lot of jokes about the color of the product. But, the CYPINK is really, honestly, a fun color. While nerdytec offers camo-printed or digital colors for some of their products, the pink goes from being “oh, this is just girly” to “this is so obnoxiously bright that I don’t hate it”.
If you look at their website, you might notice that the color and lighting of their images are vastly different from each other, causing multiple shades of pink. The lighter pink on some of them is way more accurate than their official deep pink images. Just something to know when buying.
But, I need to point out that the CYPINK product suffers from the dreaded “pink tax” that plagues anything designed for women. As I mentioned, the CYWORX is nearly identical, aside from the fuzziness and all-around color scheme. However, the CYWORX sits at $14.10 less than the CYPINK.
Considering that the CYPINK is $159 on its own already, the question you may have is if the price is worth it for you. The CYWORX is just more grayscale and less fuzzy. They even market it with the same Macbook and iPad as the CYPINK.
As mentioned, the included lapboard is pretty versatile, so you can take it to another chair to use without the cushions, if you need to. They give you the right things to make it a great way to just work on your laptop or play games, no matter where you’re sitting.
All in all, the Couchmaster CYPINK by nerdytec may be flawed, but it’s sure comfy and majestic while being imperfect.
If you’re into game-adjacent, cozy, physical products, I talk a lot about GUNNAR blue light-blocking gaming glasses here on the site. I recently wrote up a full review about their new Arbor Collection. They’re made of wood, clear to see through, and really good.
