If you’re like me, you’re at peak serotonin levels today. It’s getting cooler, the days are getting shorter, and you need a good, cozy game to sink into. Not just any game will do on Halloween though, it needs to be appropriately spoopy.
So, here are 5 cozy Halloween games that we’ve done reviews of in the past year that we not only highly recommend, but, also, fit the vibes for today. You’ll find a running “horror-lite” theme running throughout this list.
A cozy blanket, a warm drink, and, perhaps, a fluffy companion or five are recommended for maximum effect.
Cozy Halloween Games:
They’re not Halloween specific, but they work all the same!
I know, horror isn’t for everyone, but maybe it can be. Grunn is a horror exploration game that doesn’t overdo the spooky. There’s enough to feel suspense, but you’re really just someone poking around, finding secrets, and figuring out mysteries. [Steam Link]
Love, Ghostie isn’t just a cute little matchmaking game. Everyone in the house is accepted and even celebrated for their different interests/traits. The art is charming, the dialogue is engaging, and I feel pretty fulfilled in the matches I made. While the game is short, the replayability nullifies that. [Steam Link]
Slay the Princess is a horror-lite game that has graphic themes, but doesn’t subscribe to jumpscares. It’s more an existential horror where you’re basically reliving a scenario over and over trying to find a solution. [Steam Link]
Exit 8 is the perfect game for a horror-lite experience. There are no major jumpscares, and while it does perpetuate the air of unease, you’re never going to get so worked up that your adrenaline kicks in. [Steam Link]
Vampire Therapist, at its core, is a linear visual novel. But, as you meet more vampires, you just want to see how they resolve their problems by the end. The game is quirky, funny, and full of real-world therapy techniques that make you question if these characters feel more real than the game lets on. [Steam Link]
Honorable Mentions
Although it’s not really a game, Spirit City: Lofi Sessions will have you wanting to play just to find and spend time with your spirits. It’s a great focus tool that’s visually pleasing with customizable sounds to suit your needs. [Steam Link]
Please, Touch the Artwork 2 isn’t really spooky related at all. In fact, it’s a little bit educational considering it’s built around the paintings done by Baron James Ensor. But, it’s free and you run around as a skeleton. So, as my family motto says: “good enough”. [Steam Link]
If you’ve got your own cozy Halloween games you like to play, I’m begging you to comment them and let me know. I’m always in need of new games.
