We’ve finally gotten a release date for the newest set, Space-Time Smackdown, coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket. We’ll have new packs to open on Wednesday, January 29th. So, now is a great time to start hoarding those hourglasses if you haven’t already.
Space-Time Smackdown features 140 new cards to collect and covet. Among them, we’ll see new Trainer cards, more immersive cards, and even more Pokémon ex cards.
From looking at the trailer, it seems that we can look forward to more Metal-type cards being added to the roster. So, if that quest for opening 11 Metal cards comes calling again, we should be able to beat it.
You’ll have two packs to choose from, Dialga or Palkia, and it looks like it’s bringing a ton of Gen 4 Pokémon to your collection. Waifu collectors will be excited to see Cynthia in the lineup, but we’ll have to wait for the full release to see what other trainers are on the docket.

While I’m excited for new cards to collect, I’m even more excited that trading is finally going to be implemented. On January 28th, we’re finally going to be able to make incredible strides toward completing collections!
Personally, I assumed Shinedust would be used similarly to how trading worked in Pokémon GO, but it appears that we are getting a third hourglass currency. Not only will it have an hourglass, but we’ll see trade tokens as well.
There will be certain restrictions on what can be traded, but there are plans to expand the trading pool in the future. For now, you’ll be able to trade cards with a rarity of 1-4 and 1-star cards with cards of the same rarity. I’m ready to start making some serious headway in getting 100% completion on my collections.
I want to add a note that the Pokémon trailer announcing these new features are the dates we used in this article. But, when you look at written press releases, they say the trading is coming on January 29th and the expansion on January 30th. I don’t know why the trailer vs press releases have this discrepancy, but just keep in mind that you may not see things until a day later depending on which information is true.
EDITOR UPDATE 1/29/2025: As mentioned in the original article above, the times and dates may be inaccurate, as they were mentioned differently in different places. But, the official drop for Space-Time Smackdown is January 30th, 2025, at 1:00 AM Eastern Time. If you’re on the West Coast Pacific Time, that means you’re still getting it on January 29th at 10:00 PM. As Nintendo and Pokémon are both located in Seattle, that may have been what led to the confusion in the media.
