Isle of Isvenness brings us another desktop idler with a twist. Instead of one little box, there are several that float around your screen. So, if you’re looking for something small and inconspicuous, this might not be it. It should be noted that if you play with multiple monitors, you’ll want to pick where you spawn the game with care because it can’t be moved to a different screen.
Isle of Isvenness is part pet collector and part idle game. I’ll be honest and say that I’m a little lost on this one. You get the briefest tutorial and you have missions and achievements to help guide you, but you don’t really get information about how to level up your pets.
There are three main islands for your pets to exist on and sometimes they’ll have enemies to fight that will drop treasure chests. I’m not sure why they spawn. It seems like several will spawn consecutively and then they won’t show up for a while. So, they might have a cooldown effect? Either way, it seems like your pets don’t have much to do. Every so often, I’ll see one gain experience, but I have no clue why that is. Perhaps just being awake fills the bar above its head because that’s the only difference I can see between awake pets and sleeping ones.
Isle of Isvenness takes up a lot of desktop real estate

You can build a party of 8 and this is your core team. You can spread them out across the three islands so that when major enemies do spawn, there’s always someone there to handle it. Otherwise, you may be able to tackle some missions that require certain pets to complete because each pet has a unique icon assigned to them. Matching those icons increases your chances of winning, at which point you get what I’m assuming is aether.
There’s a lot of potential for Isle of Isvenness, but it needs some major upfront tutorial because part of the demo challenge is to get five pets up to level 3. Initially, I had zero clue how to get those hearts. I finally figured out that hovering over the heart icon pops up text that says “collecting duplicates” and that I needed to adopt more of that species to upgrade it. I sat for most of the gameplay trying to figure that out.
Overall, I like the premise, I like that monsters pop up for our creatures to fight, and I like that there are missions, but I’m not sure if it feels like I’m working toward any sort of goal. Maybe a better tutorial would fix it. It’s possible that I’m missing a big part of the gameplay.
If you want to try out Isle of Isvenness for yourself, you can check out the demo on Steam.
