Here at Comfy Cozy Gaming, we’re no strangers to classic point-and-click games. Cronela’s Mansion looks right out of the 1980s and ’90s and takes so much inspiration from old-school SCUMM engine hits like Maniac Mansion.
The official blurb about Cronela’s Mansion states:
In the depths of a majestic mansion, a story of witchcraft, lies, and betrayal is concealed, laden with nightmares that defy all known logic. The mansion harbors secrets, where the line between the real and the fantastic fades away. Each room is a portal to a shadowy world where the truth is as elusive as light in the darkness.
Will you dare to discover the truth hidden behind the doors of this spine-chilling place? The choice is yours, but be careful; once you cross the threshold, Cronela’s Mansion could reveal more than you are willing to face.
Enter with caution as this mysterious place unveils its enigmas only to the bravest, those willing to lose track of time and their own sanity.
Cronela’s Mansion is coming to Kickstarter soon
The debut trailer offers a small glimpse into what’s in store for Cronela’s Mansion, coming 2025. It’s going to be on (hold your breath while I write out this list) Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
While most people will likely pick it up for the Nintendo Switch, the fact that they’re making a ton of different versions of the game is really neat. Each version will take advantage of the specific hardware it’s being played on. I can’t wait to play it on Game Boy Color, personally.
I wonder if the Nintendo Switch and PC versions will have the option to switch between all of the various styles and hardware on the fly, similar to retro remakes like The Secret of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion‘s sequel, Day of the Tentacle.
The developer, Straynus, spoke about developing the game and what it’ll take to get it to 1.0.
“For the past four years, I have been working at Cronela’s Mansion. Creating a point-and-click game for retro systems has been a challenging experience, both physically and mentally, as all versions are programmed and drawn from scratch. The NES version, in particular, has been very difficult to create. Now, I am looking for funding on Kickstarter to be able to produce all the physical material for the games. If you like my work and love retro graphic adventures, it would be amazing to have your support.”
You can find the link to the upcoming Kickstarter here. The game looks great and we’re excited to try it out!
Speaking of Day of the Tentacle, we recently did a retro review for the Remastered version of the game, if you’re into the point-and-click genre.
