If you grew up with the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube as a Pokémon fan, you likely recall Pokémon Stadium (or the upgraded Stadium 2). These kinds of games were designed to give you the power of having a Pokémon battle in full animation on your TV. But, with the advent of the Nintendo Switch being both a portable and a home console, the titles were less necessary. That’s why Pokémon Champions is such a cool thing to learn about during Pokémon Day during the Pokémon Presents presentation.
Just like the olden days, Pokémon Champions will allow you to have battles without bogging you down with pesky things like story and adventure. If you want to battle, you got it.
According to the short trailer and information given during the presentation, you’ll be able to pull your Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet to play. Considering how this works, it’s likely that you’ll be utilizing Pokémon Home in some way.
The cool thing about it all is that this isn’t just for your Nintendo Switch. This title will also be coming to iOS and Android as well. This means you’ll be able to do legitimate Pokémon battles using Pokémon you’ve personally caught for the first time on your phone or tablet. Seeing as the last time we had a game like this was Pokémon Battle Revolution for the Nintendo Wii, that’s a big deal.
While not much is available for Pokémon Champions just yet, we do know that it’ll be among the first titles to offer Latin American language support, along with the upcoming Pokémon Legends Z-A.
