Cozy comes in all forms, but for me, I don’t like timed events or competitive structures. I’m, also, not a big fan of boss battles. However, that doesn’t mean there’s not a caveat to these statements. The Mario franchise is, seemingly, built upon these three things that I don’t find relaxing. So, where does that leave us for our coziest Super Mario picks?
It leaves us with a compromise. This list will have elements of things I’m not the biggest fan of but feel were better balanced toward the enjoyment of the player rather than trying to challenge them.
3 Coziest Super Mario Picks (In our Opinion)

Super Mario Odyssey
Super Mario Odyssey really reset the landscape for Mario games for me. The elements and challenging aspects of getting through levels didn’t change. However, turning toward a more open-world structure and making the levels more of an environment rather than a platforming experience made Super Mario Odyssey my absolute favorite Mario title of all time.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
You’re immediately hung up on the fact that I don’t like competitive play with this one, huh? I get it. Let me just preface that I hate playing with others — if you blue-shell me, you’re on my shitlist for life. However, I found immense enjoyment and relaxation in simply driving the courses and doing my best against my own times. It doesn’t have to be couch co-op to enjoy winning trophies and racing the courses.

Puzzle & Dragons Z + Super Mario Bros. Edition
Didn’t see this one coming, did you? While I wouldn’t call this title obscure, I wouldn’t expect it to be a long-term memory for most people. After all, it’s predominantly a Match 3 game with Mario wraps. I love a good gimmick and as someone who plays Match 3 games daily on mobile, I had so much fun playing with Mario packaging.
